Satan/ Shaytan:-
In Biblical Hebrew, Satan, signifies Adversary; it is derived from the verb meaning to oppose, to hinder, to resist. The word first appears in:
I Kings 11:14 " And the Lord raised up an adversary(satan) to Solomon,
Hadad the Edomite; he was of the king's seed in Edom".
In the course of time The Adversary, became identified as Satan, the incarnation of evil whose sole purpose is the destruction of humanity by tempting them and leading them astray. This concept is not found in the Torah.
No where in the Bible is there a story about Satan and God. In the non Biblical traditions of the Jews, Satan acts solely with divine permission and under the control of God.
Christian theology continued this process in the New Testament. The Quran
as usual, copied it in like manner (Shaytan- 2:36).
It is estremely important to point out to the reader, that BEFORE Muhammad, the pagan Arabs had no concept of such a character in their very primitive theology.
Muhammadan Traditions-
In Muhammadan Islam, the Devil/Iblis (origin from Latin: Diabolos) is believed to be descended from the Jinn, the progenitor of the evil Genii. He is said to have been named Azail and to have possessed authority over the animal and spirit kingdoms. But, when Allah created Adam, Iblis refused to prostrate and adore him, and he was therefore expelled from Eden.
The sentence of death was then pronounced against Satan; but upon seeking a respite, he obtained it until the Day of Judgment, when he will be destroyed (7.13). According to the Quran, the Devil was created of fire whilst Adam was created of clay.
There are two words used in the Quran to denote this great spirit of evil:
(1) Shaytan /Satan
(2) Iblis/ Devil a wicked or profligate person, ie "the wicked one." The former expression occurs in the Quran fifty-two times, and the latter only nine, whilst in some verses
(2. 32-34) the two words Shaytan and Iblis occur for the same personality. According to the Majma' l'-Bihar, denotes one who is far from the truth, and Iblis one who is without hope.
The Quran has made Satan the eternal fall guy for all of Muhammadan Muslims' midsdeeds and criminalities. It absolves the individual follower of Muhammad, the 'Muslim', from any sense of personal responsibility since it becomes the MANTRA-
"It was Satan who made me do it".
In reality, since according to Muhammadan belief, mankind's destiny is Pre-Ordained by Allah, then in reality, Satan is useless, redundant and irrelevant in the scheme of things. In fact, it renders Satan completely and utterly innocent of all charges made against him.
Satan is actually Mankind's Evil Impulse, the lower passions that hinder man's pursuit of the nobler things in life.
In his Legends of the Jews (Ginzberg I:63), Satan - the greatest of the angels with twelve wings instead of the usual six - refused to bow down to Adam when God instructed him to do so because of his envy; saying:
" Thou didst create us angels from the splendour of the Sekhina, and now thou dost command us to cast ourselves down before the creature which Thou didst fashion out of the dust of the ground!"
Satan and the other angels are endowed with the ability to consume their victims with fire.
The Quran PLAGIARISED this story almost verbatim in its verses
(2:34; 18:50).
Muhammad and his Quran are obsessed with Satan and attribute most of Man's failings on to him; this is only a simple and ready excuse to absolve his followers from any responsibility for their actions; it is the easiest and best 'COP OUT'.
The 'Muslim' dogma of Allah's PREDESTINATION of humanity, renders the Quran and Muhammad's 'legacy' utterly IRRELEVANT since PREDESTINATION negates the need for religion, and without religion, there is no need for Prophets, and without Prophets, there is no need for Muhammad or Satan; they all become REDUNDANT.
How could Satan be of relevance since Allah had already decided the destinies of his creation?
Satan, a slave and a creation of Allah, cannot over-rule or over-ride Allah's ordinances. Hence in reality and from a rational point of view, Satan is redundant in this scheme of things.
The Quran and Ahadith are full of verses asserting the pre-destination of all matter and creatures; hence it fails logic to bring Satan into the equation.
The following are a few examples from the Quran & Ahadith about Satan-
4: 119 "I will mislead them and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah." Whoever forsaking Allah takes Satan for a friend hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest.
120 Satan makes them promises and creates in them false desires; but
17: 53 Say to My servants that they should (only) say those things that are best: for Satan doth sow dissensions among them: for Satan is to man an avowed enemy. Satan's promises are nothing but deception.
20: 120 But Satan whispered evil to him: he said "O Adam! shall I lead thee to
Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?"
*** As usual, the Quranic version is WRONG since in the ORIGINAL version in the Bible, it is the TREE of KNOWLEDGE and NOT the TREE of LIFE ***
22: 52 Never did We send an apostle or a prophet before thee but when he framed a desire Satan threw some (vanity) into his desire: but Allah will cancel anything (vain) that Satan throws in and Allah will confirm (and establish) His Signs: for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom:
53 That He may make the suggestions thrown in by Satan but a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease and who are hardened of heart: verily the wrongdoers are in a schism far (from the Truth):
*** It is both a Theological and Intellectual RELIEF that there is Not a single verse from the examples above, that can be attributed to the Bible ***
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.641 Narrated bySaid bin Al Musaiyab Abu Huraira said, "I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'There is none born among the off-spring of Adam, but Satan touches it. A child therefore, cries loudly at the time of birth because of the touch of Satan, except Mary and her child." Then Abu Huraira recited: "And I seek refuge with You for her and for her offspring from the outcast Satan" (3.36)
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 9.124 Narrated byAbu Qatada The Prophet said, "A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan. So whoever has seen (in a dream) something he dislike, then he should spit without saliva, thrice on his left and seek refuge with Allah from Satan, for it will not harm him, and Satan cannot appear in my shape."
Sahih Muslim HadithHadith 5006 Narrated byJabir ibn Abdullah Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: When a person enters his house and mentions the name of Allah at the time of entering it and while eating the food, Satan says (addressing himself):
You have no place to spend the night and no evening meal; but when he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, the Satan says:
You have found a place to spend the night, and when he does not mention the name of Allah while eating food, he (the Satan) says:
You have found a place to spend the night and evening meal.
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Jabir ibn Abdullah through the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.493 Narrated byIbn Abba The Prophet said, "If anyone of you, when having sexual relation with his wife, say:
'In the name of Allah. O Allah! Protect us from Satan and prevent Satan from approaching our offspring you are going to give us,' and if he begets a child (as a result of that relation) Satan will not harm it."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.522 Narrated byAbu Huraira The Prophet said,
"When you hear the crowing of cocks, ask for Allah's Blessings for (their crowing indicates that) they have seen an angel.
And when you hear the braying of donkeys, seek refuge with Allah from Satan for (their braying indicates) that they have seen a Satan."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 8.238 Narrated bySafiya bint Huyai
The wife of the Prophet that she went to Allah's Apostle while he was in Itikaf (staying in the mosque) during the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan. She spoke to him for an hour (a while) at night and then she got up to return home. The Prophet got up to accompany her, and when they reached the gate of the mosque opposite the dwelling place of Um Salama, the wife of the Prophet, two Ansari men passed by, and greeting Allah's Apostle , they quickly went ahead. Allah's Apostle said to them, "Do not be in a hurry. She is Safiya, the daughter of Huyai." They said, "Subhan Allah! O Allah's Apostle (how dare we suspect you)." That was a great thing for both of them. The Prophet then said,
"Satan runs in the body of Adam's son (i.e. man) as his blood circulates in it, and I was afraid that he (Satan) might insert an evil thought in your hearts."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 8.242 Narrated byAbu Huraira
The Prophet said, "Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning, so if someone sneezes and then praises Allah, then it is obligatory on every Muslim who heard him, to say: May Allah be merciful to you (Yar-hamuka-l-lah).
But as regards yawning, it is from Satan, so one must try one's best to stop it, if one says 'Ha' when yawning, Satan will laugh at him."
Sahih Muslim HadithHadith 5463 Narrated byUthman ibn Abul'As
Uthman came to Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) and said: Allah's Messenger, the Satan intervenes between me and my prayer and my reciting of the Qur'an and he confounds me. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: That is (the doing of the Satan) who is known as Khinzab, and when you perceive its effect, seek refuge with Allah from it and spit three times to your left. I did that and Allah dispelled that from me.
Sahih Muslim HadithHadith 5611 Narrated byAbuSa'id al-Khudri
We were going with Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him). As we reached the place (known as) Arj there met (us) a poet who had been reciting a poem. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said:
Catch the satan or detain the satan, for filling the belly of a person with pus is better than stuffing his brain with poetry.
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 2.301 Narrated byAbu Huraira
The Prophet once offered the prayer and said,
"Satan came in front of me and tried to interrupt my prayer, but Allah gave me an upper hand on him and I choked him.
No doubt, I thought of tying him to one of the pillars of the mosque till you get up in the morning and see him. Then I remembered the statement of Prophet Solomon, 'My Lord ! Bestow on me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me.' Then Allah made him (Satan) return with his head down (humiliated)."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 2.323 Narrated byAbu Huraira
Allah's Apostle said,
"When the call for prayer is made, Satan takes to his heels passing wind so that he may not hear the Adhan and when the call is finished he comes back, and when the Iqama is pronounced, Satan again takes to his heels, and when the Iqama is finished he comes back again and tries to interfere with the person and his thoughts and say, "Remember this and that (which he has not thought of before the prayer)", till the praying person forgets how much he has prayed. If anyone of you does not remember whether he has offered three or four Rakat then he should perform two prostrations of Sahu while sitting.
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.506 Narrated byAbu Huraira
The Prophet said,
"When any human being is born, Satan touches him at both sides of the body with his two fingers, except Jesus, the son of Mary, whom Satan tried to touch but failed, for he touched the placenta-cover instead."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.509 Narrated byAbu Huraira
The Prophet said,
"Yawning is from Satan and if anyone of you yawns, he should check his yawning as much as possible, for if anyone of you (during the act of yawning) should say:
'Ha', Satan will laugh at him."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.523 Narrated byJabir bin Abdullah
Allah's Apostle said,
"When night falls (or it is evening), keep your children close to you for the devils spread out at that time.
But when an hour of the night elapses, you can let them free. Close the doors and mention the Name of Allah, for Satan does not open a closed door."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.516 Narrated byAbu Huraira
The Prophet said, "If anyone of you rouses from sleep and performs the ablution, he should wash his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out thrice, because Satan has stayed in the upper part of his nose all the night."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.510 Narrated byAisha
On the day (of the battle) of Uhud when the pagans were defeated, Satan shouted, "O slaves of Allah! Beware of the forces at your back," and on that the Muslims of the front files fought with the Muslims of the back files (thinking they were pagans). Hudhaifa looked back to see his father "Al-Yaman," (being attacked by the Muslims). He shouted, "O Allah's slaves! My father! My father!" By Allah, they did not stop till they killed him. Hudhaifa said, "May Allah forgive you." 'Urwa said that Hudhaifa continued to do good (invoking Allah to forgive the killer of his father till he met Allah (i.e. died).
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.498 Narrated byUbai bin Kab
That he heard Allah's Apostle saying, "(The prophet) Moses said to his attendant, 'Bring us our early meal' (18.62). The latter said, 'Did you remember when we betook ourselves to the rock? I indeed forgot the fish and none but Satan made me forget to remember it.'
(18.63) Moses did not feel tired till he had crossed the place which Allah ordered him to go to."
*** The concpt of Satan did not exist in the days of Moses nor can any Muhammadan show a single such verse in the Bible to corroborate such - as usual - totally absurd and mendacious allegations ***
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.494 Narrated byIbn Umar
Allah's Apostle said, "When the (upper) edge of the sun appears (in the morning), don't perform a prayer till the sun appears in full, and when the lower edge of the sun sets, don't perform a prayer till it sets completely. And you should not seek to pray at sunrise or sunset for the sun rises between two sides of the head of the devil (or Satan)."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.492 Narrated byAbdullah It was mentioned before the Prophet that there was a man who slept the night till morning (after sunrise). The Prophet said, "He is a man in whose ears (or ear) Satan had urinated."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.491 Narrated byAbu Huraira Allah's Apostle said, "During your sleep, Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of each of you, and he breathes the following words at each knot, 'The night is long, so keep on sleeping,' If that person wakes up and celebrates the praises of Allah, then one knot is undone, and when he performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when he prays, all the knots are undone, and he gets up in the morning lively and gay, otherwise he gets up dull and gloomy."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 4.155 Narrated byAisha
Allah's Apostle came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Bu'ath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, i.e. Khazraj and Aus, before Islam.) The Prophet reclined on the bed and turned his face to the other side. Abu Bakr came and scolded me and said protestingly, "Instrument of Satan in the presence of Allah's Apostle?" Allah's Apostle turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them." When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I waved the two girls to go away and they left. It was the day of 'Id when negroes used to play with leather shields and spears. Either I requested Allah's Apostle or he himself asked me whether I would like to see the display. I replied in the affirmative. Then he let me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he was saying, "Carry on, O Bani Arfida (i.e. negroes)!" When I got tired, he asked me if that was enough. I replied in the affirmative and he told me to leave.
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 1.110 Narrated byAbu Huraira
The Prophet said, "Name yourselves with my name (use my name) but do not name yourselves with my Kunya name (i.e. Abul Qasim). And whoever sees me in a dream then surely he has seen me for Satan cannot impersonate me. And whoever tells a lie against me (intentionally), then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire."
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 1.78 Narrated byIbn Abbas
that he differed with Hur bin Qais bin Hisn Al-Fazari regarding the companion of the Prophet Moses. Meanwhile, Ubai bin Ka'b passed by them and Ibn 'Abbas called him saying, "My friend (Hur) and I have differed regarding Moses' companion whom Moses asked the way to meet. Have you heard Allah's Apostle mentioning something about him?" Ubai bin Ka'b said: "Yes, I heard the Prophet mentioning something about him (saying) while Moses was sitting in the company of some Israelites, a man came and asked him: 'Do you know anyone who is more learned than you?' Moses replied: 'No.' So Allah sent the Divine Inspiration to Moses: 'Yes, Our slave Khadir is more learned than you.' Moses asked Allah how to meet him (Al-Khadir). So Allah made the fish a sign for him and he was told when the fish was lost, he should return (to the place where he had lost it) and there he would meet him (Al-Khadir). So Moses went on looking for the sign of the fish in the sea. The servant-boy of Moses said: 'Do you remember when we betook ourselves to the rock, I indeed forgot the fish, none but Satan made me forget to remember it.' On that Moses said, 'That is what we have been seeking.' So they went back retracing their footsteps, and found Khadir. (And) what happened further about them is narrated in the Holy Qur'an by Allah." (18.54 up to 18.82)
*** The story above is of course not found in the Bible. It was created by Muhammad so that he would cover up the fact that he used to forget many of the allegedly revealed Suras by implying that Moses - as well as all previous prophets - also was forgetful due to Satan's interference***
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 9.193 Narrated byAbu Huraira The Prophet said, "None of you should point out towards his Muslim brother with a weapon, for he does not know, Satan may tempt him to hit him and thus he would fall into a pit of fire (Hell)."
Al-Tirmidhi HadithHadith 999 Narrated byGrandfather of Adi ibn Thabit Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Sneezing, drowsing, yawning in prayer, also menstruation, vomiting and nose-bleeding are from (the acts of) Satan. Transmitted by Tirmidhi.
Sunan of Abu-DawoodHadith 4345 Narrated byAbdullah ibn Abbas
Abdullah ibn AbuSarh used to write (the revelation) for the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him). Satan made him slip, and he joined the infidels.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) commanded to kill him on the day of Conquest (of Mecca). Uthman ibn Affan sought protection for him. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) gave him protection.
Sahih Al-Bukhari HadithHadith 6.442 Narrated byIbn Abbas
All the idols which were worshipped by the people of Noah were worshipped by the Arabs later on. As for the idol Wadd, it was worshipped by the tribe of Kalb at Daumat-al-Jandal;
Suwa' was the idol of (the tribe of) Murad and then by Ban, Ghutaif at Al-Jurf near Saba; Yauq was the idol of Hamdan, and Nasr was the idol of Himyar, the branch of Dhi-al-Kala. The names (of the idols) formerly belonged to some pious men of the people of Noah, and when they died Satan inspired their people to (prepare) and place idols at the places where they used to sit, and to call those idols by their names. The people did so, but the idols were not worshipped till those people (who initiated them) had died and the origin of the idols had become obscure, whereupon people began worshipping them.
